A woman, unmarried, in her later years who was once a well known  ‘party girl’ but who now is anxious, afraid and a semi-recluse.

Evelyn, also unmarried,  is Constance’s elder sister, a retired primary school headmistress, and a ‘stickler’ for routine and order.

A young man, who carries a family tragedy with him. However, despite his difficult and criminal late teenage years, he is now trying to make something of his life.

A young man recently released from Wormwood Scrubs. He looks with regret at his wasted years inside and hopes for a new life out in the wider world.

In her late teens and the daughter of an alcoholic mother, she despairs for her lot in life and is looking to grab any chance she can to step away from all that life has dealt her.
