When the bough breaks...

"Maybe it’s the fault of our generation. Where did we get the idea that we have a right to be happy?”

Inspired by the theatre work of the director, Ivo van Hove, When the bough breaks…’ is ‘television for the stage’; a freewheeling dissection of the anatomy of a modern marriage and its eventual collapse. Constructed as a fractured narrative, the play explores the character of Rachel, a 40-something teacher, as she endeavours to crawl out of the wreckage of a broken relationship, looks to repair matters with her daughter in particular, and begin life anew.

At a time when mental health issues are an increasingly significant feature in the landscape of modern life, this play looks to explore the impact on an ostensibly comfortable and secure woman who begins to fall into the ‘happiness trap’.
